The Directors of the Attwater Group recognise that most of the activities undertaken by the Company in the course of its business will have some impact on the environment. They also firmly believe that the company’s reputation as a well respected manufacturer and stockist of thermosetting plastics will be measured not only by the quality of its products, but also by the impact it has upon on the shared environment.

In order to translate these environmental beliefs into business practice, a programme of training and development intended to develop best practice will be undertaken and maintained.

The company will: -

  • Comply with all environmental legislation affecting it’s business and aim to meet and exceed any industry environmental benchmarks as may be demanded by customers, Approved Codes of Practices (ACOP) or produced by the Environment Agency.

  • Develop, maintain and review registers of environmental legislation and good practice; creating a designated environmental file’ to ensure legal compliance.

  • Strive to continually improve environmental performance by measures such as the segregation and recycling of paper and waste packaging so to reduce the tonnage sent to landfill and prevention of pollution of land, air and water by ensuring that hazardous waste is treated and disposed of by a competent authority.

  • Adopt practices and procedures wherever practicable, designed to reduce energy consumption within the company.

  • Plan towards the development of an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and have systems implemented and aligned with other company policies by 2008

  • Seek to publicise the company's environmental performance by providing relevant information to stakeholders.

  • Review processes on a regular basis with the objective of reducing the use of natural resources (e.g. water) Benchmark, monitor and review the company’s environmental performance through the establishment of performance indicators and the setting of targets designed to reduce generation of waste and use of resources and energy. Review and update this policy on a regular basis, as appropriate to reflect the businesses changing requirements.

This policy has been written in association with the Centre for Waste Management at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston and is available to all members of staff and the public; through our website, reception areas or on request.
